I graduated from Elder High School in Cincinnati and studied Illustration at The Columbus College of Art & Design. I was an editorial artist at three Metropolitan newspapers, The Knoxville News Sentinel, The Pittsburgh Press and The Cincinnati Enquirer for nearly 15 years. While at The Enquirer, I was sent to USAToday to learn the best ways to create charts and educational graphics as the infographic boom in journalism had begun. It was during this time that I learned to research, write, design and illustrate informational graphics on a wide variety of subjects, often on deadline, winning two first place Associated Press awards in both Illustration and Info-graphics during that time.
I've worked as a freelance illustrator and info-graphics designer since 2006 for many magazines and educational publishers, including McGraw Hill, Savvas, Pearson, National Geographic, Houghton-Mifflin, Oxford University Press and many others. I was also Art Director for Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouses, designing menus, ads, murals and anything needed and have enjoyed working with many other local designers and businesses. Lately,
I've been delving headlong into making fine art and murals on a variety of surfaces including canvas, mirrored metals and textured wallpapers. With my large format printer I’ve also made signs and vehicle decals and wraps, primarily on flat surfaces.
When not working, I enjoy hiking and playing sports, many with my sons including volleyball, skiing, flag football, vintage baseball and tennis. We still often travel as a family, which is nice, having been with our son Ian to Spain and Italy in 2022, and in 2023 to Amsterdam, Vienna and Prague. Our most recent trip was hiking in Vancouver in early September 2024.
